American mezzo-soprano Gabrielle Beteag (pronounced Bee-tag) brings radiant joy and commanding warmth to repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works. Praised by San Francisco Classical Voice for her “precise, soaring voice,” she has recently appeared in acclaimed performances with San Francisco Opera, including The Handmaid’s Tale, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, and Carmen.
This summer, Beteag returns to Wolf Trap Opera to perform Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony under Marin Alsop and sing Mère Marie in Dialogues des Carmélites, before traveling to Paris as a finalist in the Paris Opera Competition. A 2020 winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, she has also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Santa Rosa Symphony, and San Francisco Ballet, and looks ahead to her LA Philharmonic debut next season.
Offstage, Beteag is the creator of Songbook Sundays, a social media series of Golden Era jazz standards—often accompanied by her trusty ukulele and hound dog, Hambone.
