As a public art sculptor for over 20 years, Charlie Brouwer describes himself as an artist in search of beauty, truth, and goodness – universal touchpoints that concern each of us, and connect us all.
His outdoor sculptures are all constructed of America’s hardest and most weather resistant material, black locust wood, harvested from small, local sawmills near his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Brouwer’s contemplative sculpture connects the past to the present as it reminds us of the Roswell Railroad which once ended where North River Tavern now stands. Additionally, the sculpture brings to mind a number of familiar metaphors. We can be “on the right track” or “go off the rails”, “reach the end of the line” or we can sit down, relax and wait for a new “train of thought” to come along.
